Σήμερα αγόρασα ένα ψάρι το οποίο ο πωλητής μου είπε οτι ήταν freshwater lionfish.

Ζούσε στο μαγαζί για 7-10 μέρες σε γλυκό νερό.

Φέρνοντας το στο σπίτι, παρατήρησα οτι είχε βγάλει ένα λευκό "πέπλο" -σαν μούχλα- γύρω από τα βράγχια, κάτι που δεν είχε στο μαγαζί. Φαντάστηκα οτι μπορεί να ήταν αντίδραση στο στρες της μεταφοράς. Τελικά το πέπλο έφυγε σε λίγες ώρες.

Ψάχνοντας στο δίκτυο βρήκα οτι το ψάρι μου δεν μοιάζει με freshwater lionfish αλλά με Batrachomoeus trispinosus το οποίο ζει σε ρηφ και σε υφάλμηρο νερό.

Τα θαλασσινα ψαρια δεν επιβιωνουν σε γλυκο νερο παραπανω απο μια ωρα το πολυ - και αυτο γινεται για θεραπευτικους λογους. Εισαι σιγουρη οτι αυτο ειναι το ψαρι σου? Μπορεις να ξαναπας εκει που το αγορασες να ρωτησεις περεταιρω πληροφοριες (για παραδειγμα το λατινικο ονομα του ψαριου που σου πουλησαν).

Σόρρυ που δέν σου απάντησα νωρίτερα σε αυτό το θέμα,και δυστυχως θα σε απογοητεύσω.

Γνωρίζω τα συγκεκριμένα ψάρια από την στιγμή που ήρθαν στην ελλάδα με την συγκεκριμένη εισαγωγή.Τα ψάρια ήρθαν σε υφάλμυρο,αλλά είναι καθαρά υφάλμυρα εώς θαλασσινά αφου ζούνε στην θάλασσα παράκτια και σε βάθος 30 μέτρων.Είναι ψάρια predator και θα φάνε ότι βρουν και χωράει στο στώμα τους,Επήσεις οι πληροφορίες στο ιντερνετ λένε ότι είναι και δηλητιριώδες.

Άν σκοπεύεις να το κρατήσεις θα συνιστούσα ένα spieces-only ενυδρείο....

Το ψαράκι σου είναι ένας εξαιρετικός predator που θα χτυπήσει οτιδήποτε χωράει στο στόμα του..

Προτείνεται για μεγάλα fish only ενυδρεία με συγκατοίκους ανάλογους όπως μεγάλα angel fish διαφορά grouper κ.λ.π..

Λοιπον, το περιστατικο μου κινησε την περιεργεια - δηλαδη να πουλανε ψαρια σε μαγαζια σαν γλυκου νερου και να ειναι θαλασσινα παραπαει. Οποτε εκανα μια μικρη ερευνα στο internet. Εγω προσωπικα δεν ειχα ποτε τετοιο ψαρι - οποτε δεν ξερω τις συνηθειες του. Αλλα κυττα τι βρηκα:

There IS a fresh water member of the Serranidae family, (the Groupers and their kin.) It goes by the name of Chinese Perch Siniperca Chuatsi. They are a cold water fish (gold fish cold, not chiller cold) and have appatites like Oscars but will eventually get almost 1 and 1/2ft long. So I've been told. I've only had them under my care while working at LFS so I've only seen the 4 to 7 inch models. They stay near the bottom more than most cichlids and are shy, but customers say they tame up once settled in at home. I've never seen them bully or attack anything they didn't consider prey. Probably would like caves. We had driftwood in with them and they all stayed sheltered until feeding time. Then they would come flying out so fast they would scare the hell out of you even if you were ready for it. They have a beautiful bronze color when they are happy and are very fine scaled fish so no bullys or rough handling or else they tend to scar. Make sure they use a fine mesh net for capture at fish store.

Now there is a fish called a fresh water lion fish Halophryne Trispinosus. I don't see the resemblence. They looked and acted more like Scorpion Fish or Stone Fish. No toxic spines, I checked with the folks at Steinhardt as I had little children at the time.

I was fortunate enough to have owned 3 of them for about 2 years. A word of warning. The males sing. Loud. I had two of them. I had dueling Toad fish. I had neighbors coming over. They sound like someone playing a duck call through a sythesizer. They were at thier worst during the summer and did I mention they only sing at night? Even with the lights on? Even during raucous football parties,( Niners!!! ) or loud poker games? What the hell is that noise was a common quote at my place.

One can get by well in a 10gal. Two, and you need at least a 55gal as they get along with each other like male Chipokes.

And now for the reasons to actual own them.

They are a seriously trippy, cave-dwelling, ambush predator. They are one of the few animals that have the inside of their mouths pigmented black. They use the Open The Mouth Really Wide and Use The Resulting Vacuum Method of catching prey. You have to see it to believe it. A five inch speciman about the size of a potato has a 4 to 5 inch draw. Yep, I stood by thier tank with a ruler during feeding time because I was so impressed with thier range. They like a darker tank, and if you are standing in the right spot and see a goldfish "going down the tube", it looks like its spiralling into nothing, because of the black mouth, then suddenly there's this face. I'm pretty sure they are obligate piscavores as I've never seen them eat anything else. Choose appropriate sized tank mates. Bosemoni Rainbows, full grown Scissortails or Giant Danios aren't big enough,(don't ask), even though your sure they will be.

If you turn off all the lights and shine a pen light into their mouths you'll see two beams of red light come out from their pupils. Looks weird as hell. Found out accidently while checking to see how much of the inside of its mouth was black. It used to freak my ex out completely. The inside of their heads seem to be all mouth cavity. I recommend the females.

You might want to check out, if I can recall the name correctly, butterfly gobies. They are not really gobies I believe, because they lack a ventral fin sucker. Freshwater, stay small,(1 to 2 inches) and look like Lionfish only bottom dwellers. They use their pectoral fins as "hands" either by cramming food into their mouths or by pulling themselves along the bottom against a strong current. Feeding is tough as they are small and really only eat live food like brine shrimp or livebearer fry. At the time I was raising these things I didn't have access to frozen foods like bloodworms and such so I don't know if they will take that.
